Audio and Sound Mixing: Equalizers Cut or Boost

It may sound simple but when you want to add more of a certain frequency on a track or channel you boost, and when you need to reduce that frequency you cut with your equalizer on your mixer.
Although it may be the most logical thing in using the equalizer, it is not always the best option. Sometimes it's also a good idea to starting looking at the mix as a whole and learn to recognize where to cut or boost. And it may not always be the most obvious thing to do. Remember it's about the mix, not just how a single track sounds.

Let's take this simple practical example of a mixing engineer who is trying to mix a bass guitar and drums.
