Audio Mastering: Limiting and Limiter Basics

Limiters are used a lot in music. Either in live sound and PA systems to limit peaks and levels and to make it sound more balanced, or to protect equipment. Limiters are also used in many effect processors for mixing and in many instrument effect processors like guitar effects pedals and bass effects processors.

In many ways you can use the limiter the same way as with many other applications, but there are some differences. Let's look at the basics of limiting and using limiters in audio and mastering.
