Digital Audio: Sampling Rate explained
The sampling rate is the ‘rate’ at which a digital device ‘samples’ the sound intensity over time. The sampling rate is important for the way digital audio can describe the frequencies in a sound. For instance a single sine wave can not be described by two points. Two points only can describe a single line. Three points can describe the first part of the wave and 5 can describe a single wave. Although it won’t look/sound that good yet.
