Genelec 8020A Smallest Pro Studio Monitors
Genelec, the world leader in active monitoring, today introduces its smallest speaker system to date with the new 8020A. The system has been designed for monitoring in difficult listening environments, particularly those compromised by lack of space.
However, size is no handicap to performance as the 8020A two-way active monitoring system incorporates Genelec¹s acoustic design innovations to minimise all forms of distortion. The 8020A has a die-cast aluminium Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE tm), which features relatively large internal volumes; softly curved edges and outstanding mechanical strength. As a result, the imaging accuracy and low frequency extension with such a compact enclosure are truly astounding.
The 8020A also incorporates the advanced Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW tm), which provides an amazingly flat on-off axis response; while the long, curved reflex port ends in a wide flare for excellent bass articulation.
Each monitor features a 105 mm (4 inch) bass driver along with a 19 mm (3/4 inch) tweeter loaded into a new advanced Genelec Directivity Controlled Waveguide (DCW tm). The free field frequency response is 66 Hz to 20 kHz (± 2.5 dB). Maximum peak SPL output per pair with music material is 105 dB at 1 m. Bass and treble are each powered by 20 watt amplifiers.
Also included with each 8020A monitor system is the unique Genelec Iso-Pod tm, Isolation Positioner/Decoupler. The Iso-Pod tm is an ingenious mounting stand allowing you to accurately aim the acoustic axis of the monitor to the listener as well as acoustically mechanically decouple it from the surface it is resting on.
The overall dimensions of each monitor are: Height (with Iso-pod) 242 mm, Width 151 mm and Depth 142 mm. Despite its size, the Genelec 8020A system has an astonishingly solid low frequency performance and delivers reasonably high SPL for applications using moderate listening levels.
However, it can be combined with the new Genelec 7050B Laminar Spiral Enclosure (LSE tm) subwoofer (See 7050B press release, attached) to provide a powerful, bass-managed and wide bandwidth surround sound monitoring system. The advantages of the Genelec 8020A in key environments
Broadcast: Increasingly, productions are made in environments that have strict limitations on space and budget. Yet, whether a programme is transmitted from an OB vehicle or from the main studios, the highest quality monitoring is essential. The need to generate programme content quickly in standard and multi-channel formats demands an accurate and revealing programme check at each stage. Here the 8020A provides the optimal solution. Recording and Post-Production: Genelec is already renowned for its unsurpassed control room main monitors and powerful near fields. Yet today, more productions and pre-production work is done in small environments, with no room for big speakers. Here the 8020A can be relied on to reveal the audio content without adding or removing anything from the original signal. All the natural, uncoloured and extremely low distortion reproduction characteristics of the highly praised Genelec 8000 series are here in a truly compact size, with an LF extension you would never expect. By adding the new 7050B subwoofer you create a full bandwidth surround system with genuine Genelec quality. Boardrooms, auditoriums, museums, restaurants, etc: What all these varied environments have in common is the need for monitoring systems that are easy to install and take up the minimum of space. A reliable system that will deliver quality sound is also vital. Once again the Genelec 8020 two-way Active Monitor is the ideal answer. The light, die-cast aluminium enclosure has integrated support points and versatile mounting options for wall, ceiling or floor. The white colour option is often preferred in installations where sound sources have to match light coloured surfaces to blend with the interior design. Workstations: Powerful modern audio/video workstations need precision audio monitoring right next to the desktop or laptop. The quality of the soundscape is often as impressive as the latest visual magic on high quality screens. The 8020A adds a totally new dimension to your production, whether it is a DVD or the next hit game. Full Bandwidth Stereo and Surround Sound Monitoring: In playback monitoring you can work with lower sound pressure than in full scale studio monitoring, and the LF extension of the Genelec 8020A is already amazing without a subwoofer. But what about a subwoofer for the lowest octave of your production, the LFE channel and the bass management of your main speakers? To fulfil this role, Genelec is introducing the 7050B LSE tm Subwoofer. It provides the perfect partner to the 8020A for both stereo and surround sound applications. The 7050B extends the LF response down to 25 Hz with amazing bass articulation. This is made possible in such a compact enclosure thanks to the patented LSE tm (Laminar Spiral Enclosure) technology. With 5 main input channels and an LFE channel with 85/120 Hz reproduction bandwidth selection, the 8020A/7050B system fulfills the needs of 5.1 productions. You can also use the 7050B to complement the Genelec 8030A monitor.
