Shure Announces Limited Recall of E1 Earphone
Evanston, Illinois, Shure Incorporated, the world's leading manufacturer of microphones and audio electronics, today announced a limited recall of the company's Model E1 universal-fit earphone, a component of the Shure PSM® line of "in-ear" personal monitors.
The affected units were shipped between the dates of September 22 and October 20, 2000. Out of 1,379 units shipped during this time, Shure has determined that exactly 68 were defective. To expedite the recall, Shure is contacting all dealers and end users who purchased E1 product that shipped within this time frame.
The defect, which requires factory inspection to identify, involves the improper seating of the acoustical damper found in the E1's sound ports, which may result in poor sound quality. It is likely that the part will shake loose in transit or handling. While unlikely, it is also possible that the damper could enter a user's ear during use.
"We don't anticipate any such occurrences," states Scott Sullivan, Shure Marketing Manager for the PSM line. "But in this unlikely event, extreme care should be taken to avoid pushing the acoustic damper into the ear canal."
Shure is immediately recalling all units shipped to its dealers during the period from September 22 to October 20, 2000, in an effort to identify and replace the defective units, which represent less than 5% of all units shipped in the period. The company will bear all costs of product return and inspection.
