Universal Audio Ships 2610 Vacuum Tube Microphone Preamplifier
Santa Cruz, CA - Today Universal Audio shipped the much anticipated 2-610, a dual-channel tube microphone preamplifier based on the legendary Universal Audio 610 modular console. Third in the Universal Audio Classics line, the 2610 follows the 1176L Limiting Amplifier and Teletronix LA-2A Leveling Amplifier in the company's commitment to authentic analog reproductions.
{2191.jpgrDesigned by M. T. "Bill" Putnam, the Universal Audio 610 was the first modular console. Early Universal Audio consoles were used in Putnam's Western and United studios (now Ocean Way and Cello) where they were sought out by prominent engineers such as Bruce Swedien, Bruce Botnick, Lee Hirschberg, Bones Howe, Wally Heider and more. The UA 610 Console left its mark on countless classic recordings from Sinatra to Pet Sounds to Van Halen.
Bill Putnam Jr., UA CEO said, "We carefully modeled the UA 2-610 after the microphone amplifier section of the 610 console. Unlike many "vintage style" mic pres, the 2-610 is true to the design of its predecessor. We've taken care to balance the best aspects of the original, yet brought it up to date with more passive and active EQ settings, phantom power, impedance control and direct inputs." Insiders like Swedien and Oceanway's Allen Sides describe the sound of the 610 and 2-610 as "clear" and "open". Great care was taken in the transformer design (featuring double alloy cores and advanced winding techniques) to ensure the correct character.
