Yamaha D8HR AD Converter for smooth integration with Digital Mixer Boards
Making its debut at NSCA 2004, the AD8HR AD Converter from Yamaha Commercial Audio combines sonic quality with innovative functions and the convenience of remote control operation. Available in March 2004, the eight-channel AD8HR achieves immaculate signal quality by providing the same head amplifier circuitry inherited from the acclaimed Yamaha PM5000 analog mixing console and supporting sampling rates of up to 96kHz for smooth integration with digital mixers.
"Head amps play a vital role in determining the sound quality of any A-to-D converter," states Larry Italia, general manager, Yamaha Commercial Audio, "which is why Yamaha conducted strict and impartial listening tests with top audio professionals in order to perfect the design of the AD8HR, and selected the same circuitry found in the PM5000. The result is a product that provides clean, uncolored sound quality for any live, installed, recording or post situation."
The 1RU AD8HR contains a full range of analog and digital interfaces, plus all the functions required for effective and flexible live mixing. A user-friendly front panel provides quick operation and instant recognition in live situations, while each channel contains integrated high-pass filters and phantom power supplies.
With the innovative Head Amp Remote Control function, channel phantom power and high-pass filter cut-off frequencies may be switched on and off by remote control, making it possible for the AD8HR to be used as a stage box. This function also allows the unit's mic preamp to be remotely controlled in 1dB steps from digital mixing consoles (such as the Yamaha DM2000 and DM1000, with software upgrades to Version 2). Up to 255 AD8HRs can be daisy-chained together using a standard nine-pin RS422 and a digital connection via AES/EBU.
"The advantage of using AES/EBU cable for connection between a digital board and the AD8HR is that it reduces the need for analog wiring, and keeps sound quality under control," states Marc Lopez, product manager, Yamaha Commercial Audio. "By using the AD8HR's AES/EBU connections to full advantage, signal can be split into two lines for parallel output for FOH and monitors or recording applications."
Rear panel connections include eight XLR inputs, BNC-type input/output connectors for Word Clock and two D-SUB25 pin AES/EBU digital output terminals. Remote control can be accessed by using a switchable PC/RS422 nine-pin terminal.
