Yamaha Summer Technology Seminars Digital Musical Instruments
Yamaha Corporation of America has announced the 2005 dates of its highly successful Summer Technology Seminars, which will focus on the educational applications of Yamaha digital musical instruments.
The seminars will be presented in five cities across the country, including: The University of Oklahoma in Norman on July 19, 20 and 21; Moravian College in Bethlehem, Penn., July 27, 28 and 29; and Indiana University / Purdue University at Indianapolis on August 3, 4 and 5.
STS-10 features a range of exciting Clavinova-oriented sessions. The curriculum addresses the needs of a wide range of participants, including teachers who own Yamaha digital keyboards, teachers who don’t own Clavinovas but have students who do, K-12 and college educators and teachers of Clavinova Festival students.
“These classes are intended to benefit any educator with the desire to learn about music technology and understand how it’s changing music education at all levels,” says Jim Levesque, Electronic Keyboard Marketing Manager for Yamaha Corporation of America. “STS is going strong and its tenth year promises cutting-edge ideas and sessions, with something for everyone.”
The program features a range of exciting, Clavinova-oriented sessions. “Using the Sequencer for Education” will focus on learning to use technology in the studio and classroom. Topics include selecting voices, creating split and dual settings, using disk-based software, transposing, tempo adjustment, sequencer usage, muting parts, song position pointers, practicing with disks and setting/saving configurations.
“Using Auto Accompaniments” will outline the use of the Clavinova’s drum machines, accompaniment generators and multi-track recording functions. “Editing Song Files” will encompass the use of digital recording to edit song files, punch in/out recording, chord sequencing, voice editing, and other song-related editing topics.
The program will additionally cover ensemble rehearsal and performance techniques, new materials for studio and classroom use, new perspectives in adult education and teaching strategies to utilize technology in the classroom and studio. Additional sessions cover creating performance groups, classroom management systems and the basics of teaching improvisation using keyboards and the technologies associated with them.
STS is a joint project of Yamaha’s Institutional & Commercial Services and Music Marketing Groups. The seminar costs $300.00, and includes all sessions, workbooks, disks and other materials. Discounts are available for early enrollment.
